Kings Park Festival

The annual Kings Park Festival is a month long celebration that includes an intensive program of events throughout wildflower September. Famous for the colourful displays of native wildflowers throughout the Botanic Garden, the festival also provides a delightful range of community activities to suit all ages and interests. Choose from a variety of gardening and art workshops, take a guided wildflower and bird walk, ‘meet an artist’ at the Aspects of Kings Park retail gallery, enjoy free live musical and theatrical entertainment in the Botanic Garden, take a stroll through the Wildflower Marketplace and much, much more. Since it’s start in 1965, the Kings Park Festival has grown to become a highly anticipated and celebrated event in Western Australia.

Turning on the Christmas Lights

On Friday 12 November 2010 Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi will join 3,000 people in Forrest Place for the annual ‘Turning on the Christmas Lights’. This popular annual celebration will officially open the City of Perth’s Festival of Christmas. Families will be entertained with a spectacular theatrical show that will conclude with the Lord Mayor ‘throwing the switch’ to light up the City’s 100,000 Christmas decorations. A highlight of the decorations will be the spectacular 13 metre high Christmas Tree in Forrest Place which will be illuminated with over 2,000 individual lights. As always, Perth’s most beautiful buildings and walkways will be adorned with festive decorations.
